Abstract

The purposes of this study were to compare knowledge, disease control and to study the correlation between the knowledge and disease control in hypertensive patients before and after health education. Subjects consisted of 20 hypertensive patients,in Banpong Hospital outpatient unit, were selected by purposive sampling technique. The study tools were an instruction plan, a flip chart, a brochure on hypertension disease, demographic data record sheet, the questionnaires on knowledge. The questionnaires on knowledge were tested for reliability efficiency by Kuder Richardson 20 which gave reliable results at 0.68. Data were statistically analysed using frequency, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation coefficients. Statistical significance was analysed using t-test.

The results were concluded as follows.

  1. After health education, the patients knew hypertention disease better with statistically significance at the .01 level.
  2. The difference of disease control before and after health education has no statistically significance.
  3. The mark of knowledge had no correlation with disease control both before and after health education.
