Abstract

Measurements of height and hand length were done in 467 Thai childrens under 3 years old. The study showed good correlation between hand length and height. Our study was done in 2 groups of different nutritional status of Thai children and the correlation coefficient were 0.98 to 0.99. And the regression lines of 2 groups and pooled data were very similar which standard deviation errors was ± 1.8. It has been suggested that the estimation of height could be made from the regression equation and can be use as an alternative to the measurement of height of children under 3 years old in the field survey by the equation below:-

          Height of chlidrens (cms.) = 8.15 x (hand length in cms.) + 1.24 (±1.8).
