Keywords:

Objective: The purpose was to study prevalence and factors associated with metabolic syndrome in psoriasis patients at Ratchaburi Hospital.
Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional analytical study. All data were collected from medical records of 246 psoriasis patients who attended the dermatology clinic at Ratchaburi Hospital from October 1, 2022 to May 31, 2024. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and analytic statistics. The statistical significance was set at p < .05.
Results: A total of 246 psoriasis patients was included in this study. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 48.8% (95% CI 42.4–55.2). Group of the patients with metabolic syndrome had significantly higher age than the group without metabolic syndrome (p < .001); age of onset more than 40 years had significantly more metabolic syndrome than age of onset before 40 years old (p = .001); and moderate to severe psoriasis had significantly more metabolic syndrome than less severity group (p = .043).
Conclusion: This study showed prevalence of metabolic syndrome in psoriasis patients was 48.8%; and patients with an older age, age of onset after 40 years, and moderate to severe disease were factors associated with metabolic syndrome in psoriasis patients.
