Keywords:
laparoscopic hysterectomy, district hospitalAbstract
Objective: To evaluate the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic hysterectomy in the district hospital.
Materials and methods: All cases in the first year of performing laparoscopic hysterectomy were studied retrospectively. The patient data, details of operations and surgical outcomes were collected and analyzed by descriptive statistics.
Results: Patient age ranged from 17 to 59 years. The 25 patients underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy completed, whereas 2 patients were converted to open hysterectomy due to severe adhesion. The uterine weight ranged from 80 to 720 grams and the mean weight was 251.4 grams. Average operating time was 184.5 minutes. Average blood loss was 196.2 ml. Median length of post-operative stay was 2 days. There was no complication in need of surgical intervention.
Conclusion: Our first-year experience suggests that laparoscopic hysterectomy is feasible and safe in small equipped hospital with well-trained gynecologic surgeon.
