Outcome in Retreatment Tuberculosis in Nakhonpathom Hospital, Fiscal Years 2003 - 2004

Abstract

          A retrospective study of retreatment tuberculosis in TB and HIV clinic at Nakhonpathom Hospital, fiscal year 2003 - 2004, there were 59 patients from total TB register 623 patients (9%) Age range 15 – 81 years old. With 45% treatment success, 6.7% failure, 30% defaults. All data were analyzed to tables, categorized in age groups, registers and treatment category, treatment category and outcome, cause of choosing category IV which reserved in multi drug resistant cases or suspected cases in these retreatment and focused on relapse and failure categories, by correlating treatment categories with outcomes, also analyzed cause of unsuccessful treatment. Rate of collecting sputum for culture and drug sensitivity testing in the population. Correlation between time interval of relapse and treatment outcome, risk factors that associated with outcome, all compared in consecutive years. Final summarized treatment outcomes, criticized all outcomes by relevant data, review literature, plan of management and further possible ongoing prospective study.
