Breast Cancer Treatment by Surgeon in Prachuabkhirikhan Hospital

Abstract

          Breast cancer patients at Prachuabkhirikhan hospital during 2001-2003 were 43 cases. Majority of them were 50-59 years olds (41.86%), employees (37.21%) and upper outer quadrant (41.86%). Tissue pathology was invasive ductal carcinoma for 88.37%. The patients were in stage II for 46.51% and stage lll for 39.54%. All cases were initial treated by mastectomy. Then, most of them were followed by chemotherapy and/or hormonal treatment. All steps of treatment were taken care by surgeon. Only half of patients were regularly followed up. local recurrence and distant metastasis were 30.23%. Late diagnosis and under treatment due to irregular or loss follow up and were 2 major problems. The improvement of early diagnosis, proper treatment and closed continuous follow up system are recommended by using clinical practice guideline for breast cancer of Prachuabkhirikhan hospital.
