Abstract

Forty five patients with a first episode of AIDS - associated cryptococcal meningstis were divided into two groups. Patients in the first group underwent lumbar punctures everytime they had headache. Those in the second group did not. Mortality was 10.5 percent in the first group and 53.8 percent in the second group. Frequent lumbar punctures might be an effective therapeutic option to decrease mortality.
