The Study of the Relationship between Hemoglobin A1c and Fasting Plasma Glucose in Order to Evaluate Diabetic Control and Evaluation of Risk Factors of Atherosclerosis of Diabetic Patients in DM Clinic at Makarak Hospital

Abstract

This study was performed to find the relationship between Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in order to evaluate Diabetic Control and to find risk factors of Atherosclerosis of DM patients in DM Clinic, at Makarak Hospital. 105 DM Patients were selected by simple random sampling. History taking, physical examination, Fasting plasma glucose, Hemoglobin Am, Cholesterol and history of DM treatment were done. All data were analyzed by SPSS computer program.

Result

  1. There was simple linear correlation between Hemoglobin A1c and Fasting plasma glucose. r2 = 0.4217 (P value = 0.01)
  2. 39% of DM patients who were considered good control indicated by Fasting Plama Glucose had poor level of Hemoglobin A1c.
  1. Risk factors of Atherosclerosis were found as the follow: 

           a) Cigarette smoking 19% b) Hypertension 38.1%

           c) Hypercholesterolemia 86% d) Overweight or obesity 42.86%
