Treatment of Posterior Epistaxis by Using FoIey’s Catheter

Abstract

A study of patients having posterior epistaxis admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology, Ratchaburi hospital from 1992-1996, male 33 cases, female 11 cases, age 44-80 years old, mean 64 years old. 20 patients had high blood pressure, 10 patients had a history of alcohol abuse and 14 patients were idiopathic. The treatment was carried out with posterior nasal packing using foley’s catheter. Only 3 cases were unable to remove packing clue to persistent hemorrhage and had to employ external carotid ligation. The group of patients with high blood pressure was able to take packing of faster than the other two groups.

This method of treatment had no serious camplication.
