Dyslipidemia in NIDDM Photharam Hospital

Abstract

          Lipid and lipoprotein study was performed in 229 non-insulin dependent diabetic (NIDDM) patients at Photharam Hospital. There were 63 males and 166 females, with a mean age of 59.42 years (range 35 - 83 years). Hyperlipidemia was found in 69.32% of cases. The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and mixed hyperlipidemia were 31.87%, 6.55% and 31.00 % respectively. Blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in poorly controlled diabetic patients were higher than those in patients with better diabetes control.
