This study aimed to investigate the effects of teaching fingerstick glucose procedure (FSGP) among village health volunteers at Ratsamran health promotion community hospital. A quasi-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design was applied to conduct the study. A sample of this study was 32 village health volunteers who worked in 8 villages from September 2013 to December 2013. In the study method, the village health volunteers were taught FSGP by using participatory learning method. After demonstrating the FSGP, the health care volunteers demonstrated back how they would do the FSGP. Then they were monitored of the FSGP twice during the first and second week. The knowledge of FSGP and the skill evaluation of FSGP questionnaire for the village health volunteers, and the appropriateness and satisfaction of FSGP questionnaire for patients were used to collect data. T-test statistics was used to compare the differences of analyze the knowledge and the skill evaluation of FSGP scores. Results of this study showed that mean knowledge score of FSGP was greater than before teaching the FSGP (p<0.01). The mean skill evaluation score of FSGP at the second teaching was greater than the first one (p<0.01). The appropriateness score of FSGP by village health volunteers was in a high level (mean=4.26, SD=0.40). The satisfaction score was also in a high level (mean=4.28, SD=0.44). The study recommended that the developing skill of FSGP should be use participatory learning method, demonstration and return demonstration would increase the village health volunteers’ competency. In addition, using supervision with the encouragement and reinforcement over time can increase ability of the village health volunteers and participation in health care service which will certainly contribute to sustainability of the skill.
