Abstract

Extramedullary hematopoiesis is a formation and development of blood cell occurring outside bone marrow such spleen, liver and lymph nodes. Other sites are extremely rare especially in paranasal sinuses. No definite treatment for extramedullary hematopoiesis was found in the present, reducing symptoms was the only option. A 19 years old Thai woman diagnosed with hemoglobin E- beta thallassemia had had progressive left nasal blockage symptom for three years. She was admitted to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital due to no improvement after prolonged treatment with oral antibiotic and nasal corticosteroid for chronic left sinusitis and nasal polyp. A fine needle aspiration had been performed and extramedullary hematopoiesis had been diagnosed. Treatments for this patient were blood transfusion and oral folic acid but there was no significant clinical response. The patient had the same size of nasal mass but no other complication
