The Evaluation of Visual Inspection Using Acetic Acid (VIA) Screening Program for Cervical Cancer and Cryotherapy at Suwannaphum District, Roi Et Province

The aims of this study were to evaluate the program of visual inspection using acetic acid (VIA) screening for cervical cancer and treating by cryotherapy, and to explore factors of success and obstacles of implementation. The study was performed by reviewing data of VIA screening results from cervix precancerous information system (CPIS) sorting out by Tambons or sub- districts, and by interviewing the participants, the practitioners and the administrators. It was found that of the overall 15,812 target women (30-45 years old), there were 8,145 women joined this program (51.51%). The abnormality was found to be 4.1%, of which 85.1% of them underwent cryotherapy. The factors of success associated with the leadership status, the practitioners- providers concern, and community issue. The obstacles related with clients, practitioners- providers, and management. The VIA screening was effective to increase coverage and accessibility for cervical cancer at District of Suwannaphum, Roiet.
