Abstract

          Cancer of larynx was the preventable and curative disease. Surgery was a treatment of choice. The aim of perioperative nursing care was the holistic care, which was the successful operation, the patient was safe and there was no complication. This study evaluated the perioperative nursing care performed in 3 total laryngectomy cases of elderly patients with history of drinking and smoking. All of them were safe. The types of operations, blood loss and hospital stays were different from one to another. Some of them were very worried about the appearances, the tracheotomy (or stoma) and communication with other people, and lost of self confidence. The advice, care and support from nurses and multidisciplinary team of the hospital for their relatives or couples since pre operation to post-operation to prepare the patients could help them to return to normal lives.
