Benzidine test in plant products
Keywords:
-Abstract
A survey revealed that 49 out of 56 kinds of vegetables and fruits in Thailand gave positive benzidine reaction, of which neither the intensity nor the velocity could be differentiated from the reaction given by blood. The reaction, however, disappeared after heating to 100 ํC for 5 minutes. Although a few kinds of plant extracts dried on filter paper gave positive reaction after standing in room temperature as long as 13 days, extracts of most other plants did not give the reaction after 24 hours under the same conditions. This finding might be useful in the differentiation of blood and plant peroxidase in the criminalistic application of the benzidine test.
