Abstract

In 10 normal men the G-6-PD level in red blood cells averaged 430.99 units (S.D. 91.96) while that in platelets was 210.75 (S.D. 68.27); in 10 G-6-PD-deficient men the mean values were 35.09 (S.D. 37.35) and 99.18 (S.D. 37.35), respectively. Thus the red blood cell values are quite distinctive in the two groups, but the platelet values overlap.

The mean platelet G-6-PD level in Thai subjects with deficiency of the enzyme, being 47 per cent of the normal value, is thus different from that in the similar group of caucasian subjects, in with the mean value has been found to be 19 per cent of the normal.
