Factors Influencing Performance Based on Core Competency of Village Health Volunteers in Health Region 3

Village health volunteers (VHVs) play a crucial role in strengthening Thailand’s primary health care system. This cross-sectional analytical study examined factors influencing VHVs performance based on core competencies in Health Region 3. The sample consisted of 880 VHVs selected using a multistage sampling method. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results showed that most participants were female (80.70%), with a mean age of 51.96 ± 10.75 years, and the average duration of service as VHVs was 13.64 ± 9.61 years. Role perception, social support, work motivation, and intersectoral collaboration were high, while performance based on core competencies was moderate. Factors influencing performance included role perception (β=.23), social support (β=.19), work motivation (β=-.12), being employed or self-employed (β=.09), and lower secondary education (β=.08). These five predictors accounted for 10.00% of the variance in performance (p.05). Therefore, the capacity of VHVs should be developed by focusing on enhancing role perception, social support, and work motivation, with development programs tailored to their occupations and educational levels.
