Development of surgical evaluation form for patient risk for nausea and vomiting after surgery under general anesthesia

Abstract

Objectives : 1) To develop surgical evaluation form for patient risk for nausea and vomiting after surgery under general anesthesia 2)To compare postoperative nausea and vomiting before and after using surgical evaluation form 3) To find out satisfaction of using surgical evaluation form.

Methods : Action research of the sampling group was 1,058 persons categorized into 2 groups. The first group was 529 postoperative patients before development of surgical evaluation form and another group was 529 postoperative patients after development of surgical evaluation form. Study duration was from May to November 2018. The instruments used were surgical evaluation form for patient risk for nausea and vomiting after surgery under general anesthesia and satisfaction questionnaire of surgical evaluation form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, average and mean.

Results : Surgical evaluation form for patient risk for nausea and vomiting after surgery under general anesthesia consisted of 5 parts : 1)Evaluation of personal information, Evaluation of risk factor, Evaluation of PONV at operating room, Evaluation of PONV at recovery room and Evaluation of PONV at IPD. The index value was 1.0 and content validity was 0.89. 2) A number of postoperative nausea and vomiting before development surgical evaluation form was higher than after development this form accounting for 4.54% (24 persons) 3) Satisfaction of anesthesiologist and anesthesiology nurse at Mahasarakham hospital to use surgical evaluation form is at high level (=  4.37 , S.D. = 1.28)
