Nursing Care for Ludwig’s Angina or Submasseteric/ Submandibular Space Abscess : Case study 2 cases

Objective : The study aimed to compare nursing process for the patient of Ludwig’s angina.
Methods : Case study was used to in this study. Two propose sampling were recruited to case study of Ludwig’s angina who admit at Mahasarakham hospital. The consist of nursing diagnosis, nursing intervention, and nursing outcome based on Gordon health pattern to analyze information content. Data were collected by patient medical profile, interviewing from the patients and their relatives, and also observing nursing process.
Results : Both cases showed as following; the first had diabetes mellitus with tooth caries and tooth. Consequently, swelling occurred throughout throat, chin, cheek, below right chin, face, and both mandibular. The second had lump with redness and pain at left cheek, and chin, high fever. Nursing diagnosis of both cases; there were six items that showed the difference between cases. The first case including; risk of ventilator associated pneumonia. On the orther hand, the second case including; infection of saliva gland at pre audible. Important nursing intervention consist of airway obstruction prevention, infection prevention, and complication prevention, pain reduction, effective communication, encourage patient and their family for trachea care, oral hygiene care. Nursing outcomes
include no incidence of upper airway obstruction and safety discharge from hospital of both cases.
