Abstract

Objective : To explore the perception in self health care of older persons in suburban areas.Research design: Descriptive qualitative research

Methodology : This study was conducted on 30 purposively sampled older persons living in suburban area in Mahasarakham province. Data were collected by in-depth interviews and field notes recording during May - June 2019, and analyzed using content analysis method.

Results : Self health care experience’s on health of older persons in suburban areas as involving two main themes. The first was elder’s perception of their health consisted of four subthemes of a) healthy according to aged, b) easy to get sick and frailty, c) had co-morbidities d) dependent, and the second was the way of self-health care of the elders consisted of two subthemes of a) self management for self-care 2) resource of self-caring.

Recommendations : Self-care experience’s on health of older persons living in suburban area associated with socio-cultural changing. Research result benefited for health providers and social providers in providing the health care and social care services for the older people in aging society appropriately.
