Nursing Care of Post-Operative Hip Arthroplasty Patients with Comorbidities: 2 case studies

Abstract

        Objective : To compare the disease process and compare nursing diagnosis, nursing care and nursing results.

        Methods :The study involved reviewing medical record and interview of two case-studies during January – March 2020 regarding comparison of medical record, diagnosis and nursing care.

        Result : There were two case studies of hip fractures in elderlies. The first case had diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease, the second had diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease and hypertension. Both underwent hip arthroplasty. Nursing diagnosis were mostly the same which were post-operative thigh pain,  anxiety of the use of skin traction, risk of wound infection, hip dislocation, shock, fever, anemia, pressure sore, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, urinary tract infection, anxious when becoming more dependent and lack of home planning. Speaking of differences, the first case had constipation. While, the second case had hypertension.

        Conclusion : Both cases had no serious complications. and, nurses need to have proper knowledge and specific skill for patient safety and good quality of life.
