Comparison of Totally Extraperitoneal Hernia Repair (TEP) versus open Lichtenstein inguinal hernia Repair in Mahasarakham Hospital

Objective : This study aims to compare incidence of post operative complication, hospital stay and cost between the surgical procedure of Totally Extraperitoneal Hernia Repair (TEP) and open Lichtenstein inguinal hernia Repair
Methods : This study was a retrospective study of the medical record conducted in Mahasarakham Hospital . From October 2018 to October 2020 undergoing Totally Extraperitoneal Hernia Repair and Lichtenstein inguinal hernia Repair surgery by comparative study. Operative time , post-operative complication, length of hospital stay and costs of treatment. This study were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test for statistical analysis.
Results : Patient’s Age, operation time and costs of treatment of both groups are statistically difference. But type of hernia and length of hospital stay are not significant statistically difference. The data show that Totally Extraperitoneal Hernial Repair has less post operative complication than Lichtenstein inguinal hernia Repair technique.
Conclusion : Totally Extraperitoneal Hernial Repair is the prefer technique to reduce post operative complication.
