Keywords:

Objective: To study the risk factors of Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn (TTN) at Detudom Crown Prince Hospital.
Study design: Case-Control Study.
Setting: Detudom Crown Prince Hospital.
Methods & Materials: The medical records were reviewed in newborn who delivered at Detudom Crown Prince Hospital during 1st January to 31st December, 2013. Simple Random Sampling was used for categorized the records into 2 groups; TTN (cases), and normal newborn (controls), 87 records for each group. The data was analyzed in descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, and standard deviation (SD) and analytical statistics including Chi-square, 95%CI, and odds ratio.
Result: Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn was mostly found in maternal age 21-30 year-old (56.32%), Gestational Age between 37-42 weeks (81.61%), 1st delivery (41.38%), and 2nd delivery (36.78%). Most of the mother did not have underlying diseases (85.60%), and uncomplicated pregnancy (93.10%). TTN found in male infant 55.17%, and female infant 44.83%. Birth weight was 2,500-4,000 g (78.16%). Rout of delivery were Caesarean section (58.62%), and Normal Delivery (37.93%). Average length of stay was 3 days. Caesarean section was statistically significant factor associated with TTN (p-value < 0.005). Incident of TTN in Caesarean Section was found in 2 times, compared with Normal Delivery (OR=2.00, 95%-CI=1.09-3.67).
Conclusion: The risk factor of Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn in Detudom Crown Prince Hospital is Caesarean Section. Incident of TTN was found in 2 times, compared with Normal delivery.
