Colorectal cancer in Mahasarakham hospital, Mahasarakham Province, Thailand

Abstract

     Retrospective descriptive study about colorectal cancer patients whom operated at Mahasarakham hospital in aspects of epidemiology, nature of disease, treatment, surveillance and prognosis

    Method Collect data of operated Adenocarcinoma type colorectal cancer patients  between January 1,2010 and  December 31,2014

    Results Total 275 patients included 130 males and 145 females, mean age was 61.69 years old, mosly age between 60-69 years old. Most common clinical feature was Bowel obstruction (32.73%). Most common site of cancer was Middle rectum (17.82%). Mostly patients were in Stage 3 (47.64%). Most frequently surgical operation was Low anterior resection (23.27%). Recurrent tumor mostly occurred between 12^th -24^th  month postoperation, mean was 18.05 .Only patients operated in 2010 reported 5 year survival, stage 1 2 3 and 4 were 100%, 40%, 37 % and 0 % respectively.

    Conclusion Health promotion and disease prevention are equal important with the advance surgical technique, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The excellent scheme and system lead to the effective treatment process.
