AN APPLICATION OF PROTECTION MOTIVATION THEORY AND SOCIAL SUPPORT ON SELF-CARE BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATIOAMONG TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS IN THOMBON NONGTOO MUANG DISTRICT KHONKAEN

Abstract

          This study was quasi-experimental research. The purpose of this research was to determineof a health education program applied of the Protection Motivation Theory and Social Support on self - care behavioral modification among Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients about diet control, exercise and taking medicine,and stress patient at Thombon Nongtoom. The purposive sampling diabetes of 60 patient.the samplewere divided in to (30) experimental group at PCU Nongtoom and (30) control group at PCU Bungnium. The experimental group received the health promotion program application Protection Motivation Theory by using flip chart, video powerpoint, to fold
sheet, demonstration and practice to complication DM for eye kidney neuron and foot. The data was pre and post collected by interviewing question and test record Statistical analyses were done using Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, Paired t-test and Studentûs t-test at 0.05 level of significance.
          The main results of this study found that they were as follow :- after the experiment, l). The mean score of knowledge 2). The mean score of perceived severity 3). The mean score of recivew social support of the experimental group was better significantly than before the experimental and the comparison group (p-value < 0.05). Then 6). and 7). The mean score blood sugar (FBS) and (HbA1C ) of the experimental group was down significantly min before the experimental and the comparison group (p-value < 0.05). 8) There was no significant change but the mean score of experimental group that the response of the risk health care, fore eye ,kidney ,neuron and foot and 9). The mean score of protecting themselves from diabetes behavior of the risk health care, fore eye ,kidney ,neuron and foot and decreased more than the comparison group (p-value < 0.05).
