Abstract

Recently, there are several methods of fixation available including plate fixation, intramedullary nailing, and external fixation. The choice of method is based on the condition of the soft tissues, fracture location and configuration, bone quality, facilities and resource available, and the skills and experience of the surgical team. Minimal Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPO) was the new technique and most acceptable in oversea due to its advantage of reduction of bone injury by indirect technique. This study was a case report of humerus shaft fracture patient who received the MIPO operation which focuses on the operation technique development and improve outcomes that minimize effect of post operative injuries and highest complication reduction. The results of this technique development found that not only it had
a small incision but also injures less soft tissue trauma. However, this technique require special expert of surgeon because of radial nerve beside close to the bone. This method can be avoid incision as long as to bone plate distance, decrease muscle incision and less soft tissue destruction and reduce bone necrosis that bone grafting and devascularization may be need when multiple bone fractures occurs. In conclusion, Minimal Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis operation is the useful technique that should be apply to improve surgical treatment in humerus shaft fracture patients.
