Behavior of health care patient’s diabetes mellitus at receive treatment in Borabue Hospital.

Abstract

                This descriptive research was aimed at studying on health care behavior of Diabetes Mellitus patient and affecting factors to patient’s health care. Sample group was the old and new Diabetes Mellitus patient got treatment at male IPD and female IPD. The sample group of 40 persons were selected with simple random method. Tool used in research was a questionnaire consists of 3 parts of data; 10 questions on personal data, 15 questions on diseases, and 10 questions on health care. The content validity were checked by experts and result from reliability test with Cronbach method was 0.81.  Data collection was done by interviewing of sample group during April 10th – June 10th, 2007. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics;  percentage, means, t-test and F-test.

                The sample group has background characteristics as follows; most of them was female (70 percentage). More than half of them (57.5 percentage) were older than 60 years, most of them (82.5 percentage) have primary education, and 65.0 percentage of them have occupation related to agriculture. Moreover, 65.0 percentage of those people have average annual income between 10,000 – 50,000 Bath. On health knowledge aspect, the first 3 issues they have most correct understanding about Diabetes Mellitus were; 1) diabetes Mellitus patients should regularly take medicine (97.5 percentage). Secondly, 95.0 percentage of them recognized that aged-related macular degeneration (AMD) was an incurrent disease of Diabetes Mellitus and Diabetes Mellitus patient should take some sweets when they have Hypoglycemia. Thirdly, 92.5 percentage of those people recognized that eating was a risk factor to Diabetes Mellitus, Diabetes Mellitus patients usually have Overactive Bladder (OAB) and eat off behavior but loss of weight, nutrition diet could affect Diabetes Mellitus. Most of those people (62.5 percentage) have inappropriate behavior on health care. When the inappropriate behavior was classified by items, it was found that the sample group has inappropriate behavior on diet, nutrition, and exercise. It was due to fact that most Diabetes Mellitus patient usually occurred in adult age group and elder group. When the factors affecting to health care behavior were compare, it was found that health care behavior was different in sample group with different weight and occupations statistically significant. It also found that other factors have no relationships to health care behavior.
