Abstract

Objectives : 1. To develop safety innovations wheel: ‘Turn Right Away, Know Right Away’under the application of empirical evidence, 2. to test the effectiveness of nursing practice promotion in preventing pressure ulcers in patients with COVID-19, and 3. to assess their satisfaction with using the innovation.

Methods : This study was research and development (R&D) to develop, test the effectiveness, and assess satisfaction with the use of innovation, which is the "Safety Wheel: Turn Right Away, Know Right Away", by using the evidence-based model of Soukup (Soukup, 2000) as a conceptual framework. The conceptual framework consists of four phases: 1. finding clinical problems; 2. searching for empirical evidence; 3. applying artifacts to trials; and
4. implementing the improved inventions in the specialized wards of Maha sarakham Hospital between May and June 2022. Data were collected by using 1. a pressure sore record form; 2. a wound risk assessment form; 3. an assessment form for nursing activities according to the innovation approach; and 4. a satisfaction assessment form for the use of innovation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Results : It was found that the developed innovation "Safety Wheel: Turn Right Away, Know Right Away" is durable, strong, and convenient to use in a negative pressure room. The efficacy test found that after the actual implementation of the innovation, the incidence of pressure sores was 0 per thousand days at risk, and professional nurses were satisfied with the overall use of the innovation at a high level, representing a percentage of 92.52.

Conclusion : The results of this study demonstrate that the developed innovation can be used as a guideline to promote nursing practice to prevent pressure sores and to reduce the incidence of pressure sores in septic patients with coronavirus - 19 effectively. Therefore, professional nurses should use this innovation to care for other groups of patients and should evaluate the long-term effectiveness of using it.
