Development of an application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications at a Infection Ward, Mahasarakham Hospital.

Objective : 1. To develop a mobile application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications. 2. To investigate the effectiveness of the application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications. 3. To evaluate users’ satisfactions with the developed application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications.
Methods : This study was a research and development (R&D) using both quantitative and qualitative research methods in order to develop a mobile application and investigate its effectiveness for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications. The sample group consisted of 21registered nurses and selected by purposive sampling. Research tools included a temperature recording display form, an abnormal recording and medication management form for refrigerated storage, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Research data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics including percentages, means, standard deviations, and content analysis.
Results : The study found that the developed mobile application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications was practical and user-friendly. After implementation of its use, Temperatures of all refrigerated medications were completely recorded (100%). Temperature problems of refrigerated medications not meeting the standard criteria before were all resolved within an hour. No issues with deteriorated medications in the refrigerators were found. Professional nurses expressed a high level of satisfaction (95%) with the utilization of this innovation.
Conclusion : The developed application for recording the temperature of refrigerated medications continuously supports the compliance with standard temperature recording. It should be implemented in other hospital units, and continuous evaluation of its usage is recommended.
