The development of nursing service qualityfor bedridden patients with pressure ulcers in the communities of Mahasarakham hospital.

Abstract

Objective : To examine the processes and results of the development of the nursing service model for bedridden patients with pressure ulcers in communities.

Methods : This action research was conducted from October 2021 to September 2022. This study was divided in to 3 phases: 1) the preparation phase 2) the development phase and 3) the assessment phase. The study involved 60 co-developers of the nursing service model and 32 bedridden patients with levels 2-4 pressure ulcers and 32 caretakers, totaling 124 participants.The statistics analyzed data to percentages, means, standard deviation, and content analysis.

Results : An increasing incidence of pressure ulcers in the community because insufficient guideline to real practice led to develop nursing service model for bedridden patients with pressure ulcers in communities.As a consequence, the 27 patients (84.38% of the total patients) recovered from pressure ulcers. Moreover 20% of recovered patients could improve the pressure ulcers reach to grade 2 levels and 80% completely cured. For high-risk pressure ulcers, the proportion decreased to 20.38%. The progression of pressure ulcers reduced from 10.25% to 8.82%. And the satisfaction with the nursing service model at a high level was average score at 4.15.

Conclusions : The development of the nursing service model for bedridden patients with pressure ulcers in communities was the holistic care processes that encouraged and built up the community network with local health workers and caregivers to participated in caring the patients that call “Pressure Ulcers MSKH Model”
