Objective : To study the result of conservative treatment of midshaft clavicle fracture in Mahasarakham hospital.
Methods : Analytic study by retrospective study data collection was used as the study tools. 95 patients who were diagnosed closed fracture of midshaft of clavicle between July 1st, 2021 and June 30th, 2023 were the subjects of this study. In addition, they were followed-up until union fracture.
Results : There were male 65 patient (68.4%). The most common cause of injury was motorcycle accident (82.1%). The most fracture type was AO–OTA type B. Ninety patients were treated by closed reduction with figure of eight splint. There were 7 patients who failed conservative treatment, divided into nonunion 3 patients and skin tenting 4 patients. For AO-OTA type C patients had statistically significant longer the average time to union (P=0.01) and statistically significant greater risk of failed conservative treatment (P=0.042).
Conclusion : Conservative treatment of midshaft clavicle fracture was good outcome especially in AO-OTA classification of fracture type A and B. In AO-OTA classification of fracture type C can be treated by conservative treatment but follow-up treatment appointment must be made closely, because there is a greater chance of failed conservative treatment.
