Development of infection prevention system in cohort ward in the situstion of Covid-19 epidemic Pakham Hospital Buriram Province

Abstract

Objective : To study the effect of developing guideline to prevent infection in the COVID-19 Cohort Ward on the level of knowledge and understanding of self-care among COVID-19 patients and the level of opinions of the relevant staffs.

Methods : This is a descriptive research that there are 4 steps as follows: 1) finding and screening patients at the outpatient department. 2) providing nursing care in the Cohort ward. 3) discharge and continuing care planning. And 4) supervising and reviewing nursing activities to prevent infection in procedures for the patients and staffs. The statistics used in this study were descriptive statistics, averages, and percentages.

Results : The subjects were 350 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and 72 hospital and Pa-Kham District Health Coordinating Committee staffs who  working on infection prevention. It was found that the patients receiving treatment in the Cohort  ward had the average knowledge and understanding of how to prevent COVID-19 infection at understandable and practical level. The average level of satisfaction of service of the Cohort ward staffs was at high level. The average opinions of the staffs about the guidelines for preventing infection was at moderate level.

Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the development of guidelines for infection prevention for COVID-19 patients in Cohort ward encourages COVID-19 patients to have knowledge and understanding of self-care after discharged from the hospital and the Infection prevention of COVID-19 worker staffs could use this guideline that ensured safety for the staffs and creates good health for the people in situations of infectious disease pandemic.
