Nursing Care for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever with Shock in Pediatric Patients : Case Study

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is a mosquito – born tropical disease, known as dengue virus and  transmitted by Aedes aegypti. It occurs  in the younger children. The symptom after several days of infected are body temperature immediately dropped, restless, cold skin and abdominal pain. These symptoms are followed by shock stage. During shock-stage, the patient’s pulse rate irregularly, narrow pulse-pressure. Shock can lead of death within 24 hours,

Case study : In our study, we compared in 2 cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic  fever with Shock. Both of them were admitted with high fever, pulse rate irregular, blood pressure dropped, sweating, restless and blood circulation failure. The Diagnostic is Dengue Shock Syndrome and they were treated vial standard of care. In nursing care we used Gordon’s functional Health Pattern to assesse. The nursing diagnosis are same in both cases. The different diagnosis are bleeding tendency and electrolyte status. After stay sometimes  in hospital both of them got better and were discharged.

Results : Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in pediatric need early detection and early treatment to reduce mortality rate. Nurses who care for the patients have to learn and make decision to care, skill of care is important especially nurses must know what is the patients and their family need.
