Treatment Outcome and Associated Factors of Colorectal Cancer in Chumphae Hospital

Abstract

Objective: To determine 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates of colorectal cancer patients treated surgically at Chumphae Hospital and to analyze factors associated with overall survival.

Methods: This retrospective analytic study reviewed medical records of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer who underwent surgery between January 2016 and December 2019. Demographic, pathological, and clinical data were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves, univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses.

Results: A total of 69 patients were included, with a mean age of 64 years; 49.3% were male. Adenocarcinoma accounted for 92.8% of cases, and stage III disease was most common (50.7%). The 1, 3, and 5-year survival rates were 82.6%, 66.7%, and 60.9%, respectively. Univariable analysis showed lymph node ratio (LNR) (p=0.003) was significantly associated with survival. Multivariable Cox regression confirmed LNR as an independent prognostic factor (adjusted HR 5.07; 95% CI 1.23–20.92; p=0.025). Other factors, including age, sex, tumor location, histological type, margin status, perineural invasion, and lymphovascular invasion, showed no significant association.

Conclusion: The overall 5-year survival rate of colorectal cancer patients treated surgically at Chumphae Hospital was 60.9%, comparable to national and international reports. LNR was the key prognostic factor influencing survival. These findings highlight the importance of adequate lymph node dissection and staging accuracy in improving outcomes for colorectal cancer patients.
