Discharge Planning for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Patients: Applying Virginia Henderson’s Nursing Theory

Discharge planning was required for pediatric patients in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to ensure effective nursing care. This was done to lower the readmission rate. This article aims to describe the pediatric discharge planning framework in a case study. Virginia Henderson’s nursing theory and family-centered care were used to establish a framework for patient discharge planning in the PICU. This was done to assist the patient and family in meeting the care standards. It addressed enhancing the strength, will, and knowledge of pediatric patients and their families in all facets of their physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being.
