Factors Related to Knowledge and Attitude on Electronic Cigarette of Students in Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University

Abstract

The purposes of this survey research were to study knowledge and attitude about electronic cigarette of students in Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University. Samples were 380 students in Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University enrolling in years 1 to 5 regular programs in the 2021 academic year.  Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires including demographics data and knowledge and attitudes about electronic cigarette. Frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test were used for data analyses.

Results of the study revealed that the average age of the samples was 20.19 years old (SD=1.16). Knowledge of electronic cigarettes of the samples was at a high level (=15.43, SD=3.06). Attitude on electronic cigarette of the samples was at a moderate level (=2.35, SD=0.5). Factors significantly related to knowledge of electronic cigarette (p<0.05) was gender and factors significantly related to attitude on electronic cigarette (p<0.05) were the faculty that the samples were studying and electronic cigarette knowledge gained. This finding suggests that awareness of electronic cigarettes needs to be improved among students, particularly the impact of electronic cigarette smoking on health risks.
