Factors Associated with Oral Health Care Behaviors and Oral Status of Village Health Volunteers in Region 6 Health Provider

Many factors determine health behavior, including oral health behavior. The purpose of this cross-sectional survey was to investigate the factors related to oral health care. The samples were 410 village health volunteers in region 6 health providers and were recruited into the study by multi-stage cluster sampling. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and oral health examination form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square and Spearman Rank tests.
The results revealed that the sample group had sufficient oral health behavior (28.4%), and good oral status (59.0%). Factors significantly associated with oral health care included educational level and predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors (p<0.001). Factors significantly associated with oral status includes age, educational level, and the duration of work as a village health volunteer.
It is suggested that the government and dental health agencies should improve an access to dental services. Enhancing an awareness of oral health problems and recognize the benefits of oral health care for the village health volunteers should be trained continuously.
