Personal Characteristics and Administrative Factors Affecting the Performance of Dental Personnel at Community Hospitals in Health Region 8

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study personal characteristics and administrative factors affecting the performance of dental personnel at community hospitals in health region 8, Thailand. A set of 157 personnel was randomly selected as samples by Simple Random Sampling techniques from 229 of populations. Data was collected by questionnaires for quantitative data and in-depth interview guidelines for qualitative data gathering from 14 key informants. The questionnaire was examined and verified by three experts for content validity with items objective congruence (IOC), all items were more than 0.50 and reliability with Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.96. Data was collected between 14th December 2022 to 14th January 2023. Data analysis was performed by descriptive and inferential statistics by Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression at a significant level of 0.05.

The results showed that the overall level of administrative factors and the performance of dental personnel were at a high level with, averages of 3.87 (S.D.=0.58) and 4.09 (S.D.= 0.48), respectively. The personal characteristics; education had a low relationship with the performance of dental personnel (r=0.183, p-value=0.022) and personal characteristics; age, income, duration of work had the inversely low relationship with the performance of dental personnel (r=-0.205, p-value=0.010, r=-0.184, p-value=0.021 and r=-0.160, p-value=0.045), and the overall administrative factors had a moderate relationship with the performance of dental personnel (r=0.625, p-value <0.001). Three variables consisted of two variables of administrative factors; management, time and personal characteristics; age affected and could jointly predicted the performance of dental personnel at community hospitals in health region 8 at 47.9 percentage, R2=0.479 (p-value <0.001)
