Personal Factor, Oral Health Status and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life in Population Aged 40 Years and Over

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to investigate the relationship between personal factors, oral clinical status and quality of life in the oral health dimension. The study was conducted among 323 subjects who aged 40 years and above in health service areas of Prathai hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima province. Data were collected by the questionnaire (OHIP-14) and oral examination and were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression with a significant level at 0.05.
The results revealed that the subjects had mean age 60.09±10.63 years old. The average DMFT and root caries were 14.23 and 0.33 teeth/person respectively. The average sextants/person with pocket formation 4-5 mm. and pocket formation from 6 mm. and above were 1.18 and 0.11 respectively. The mean score of OHIP-14 was 10.53±10.04. Oral status that associated with oral health-related quality of life were DMFT (Adjusted OR 0.24; 95%CI 0.08-0.70, p-value 0.009) and root status (Adjusted OR 4.15; 95%CI 1.15-14.90, p-value 0.029). In conclusion, people aged 40 years and over who had 10 or more decayed, extracted and filled teeth had worse quality of life in the oral health dimension. The presence of root caries or pulpal tissue exposure due to tooth wear are interesting factors may be considered for further study.
