บทคัดย่อ

Diabetes is a significant risk of cardiovascular disease (CVA). Atherosclerotic CVD is a major complication and also the leading cause of death in patients with diabetes. Evidences suppon that meticulous. metabolic control in diabetic patients could prevent or delay the development of cardiovascular complication

Objective : To determine the achievement of metabolic control in adult Thai patients with type 2 diabetes, according to the guideline recommendation proposed by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in 2005 and complication.

Method : A cross-sectional study was performed in adult patients with type 2 diabetes at DM clinic of Samchuk hospital, Suphanburi Province, during January 1 and December 31, 2007. Metabolic parameters included in the study were fasting capillary glucose, blood pressure, Lipid profile, body mass index (BMI) and complication.

Results : The total number of subjects were 300 (219 females and 81 males). The mean age was 62.07 ± 10.50 years. The percentage of achievement of metabolic control according to ADA 2005 was : FPG (90-130 mg/dl) 34.0%, Cholesterol (< 200) 59.0% Triglycerides (< 150) 44.7% blood pressure < 130/80 mm/Hg 38.3%, body mass index (BMI) (20-24.99 kg/m) 42.00%. Chronic complication 35.33%, coronary heart disease 14.0%, diabetic nephropathy 11.0%, diabetic retinopathy 4.7%.

Conclusion : The majority of diabetes patients attending DM Clinic in Samchuk hospital had suboptimal metabolic control according to ADA 2005 recommendation. Strategies to improve metabolic control in these patients should be considered.
