5-Year-Retrospective Study of Wisdom Teeth Transplantation in U-thong Hospital, Suphan Buri

Abstract

Objective: To study the result of wisdom teeth transplantation in U-thong Hospital.
Material and Method: In this retrospective study of wisdom teeth transplantation, there were 29 cases, 31 teeth, which had undergone transplantation at U-thong Hospital between 1 January 2007- 31 December 2012.
Results: The ratio of female:male was 2.6:1. The mean age at the time of transplantation was 15.6 years (ranged from 11-22 years). The majority of patients had lost lower 1st molars or lower 2nd molars. The wisdom teeth used as donor had incomplete root formation that the root development was 1/2 - 2/3 of normal root length. The follow up period was 2 years. The success rate of the transplanted teeth was 93.5%. The wisdom teeth transplantation showed good results in open apex donor teeth. Thus wisdom teeth transplantation is the alternative treatment for replacement of unrestorable molars.
