Results of Hip Fracture Treated by Hemiarthroplasty with Austin-Moore Prosthesis in Nakhonpathom Hospital

Abstract

Objective : To study the results of hip fracture treated by hemiarthroplasty with Austin-Moore pros- thesis in Nakhonpathom hospital.

Material and Method : Retrospective study of 87 hip-fracture patients treated by hemiarthroplasty with Austin-Moore prosthesis at Nakhonpathom hospital between 1 October 2004-30 September 2008. The Questionair was sent to patients by mail or telephone and the patients were appointed to examine at the hospital.

Result : Mortality rate in 1 year after surgery was 41.4% (36 patients in B7 patients). Functional outcome by Harris-Hip score were excellent 45.5% and good in 36%. Medical treatments of established osteoporosis was 29.8% after surgery.

Conclusions : Mortality rate in 1 year after surgery was not significanty different than other papers. Functional outcome was good to excellent in 81.5% and the patient with established osteoporosis should receive much more medical treatments.
