Cerebrovascular Disease in Kampaengsan Hospital

Abstract

Objective : To study the clinical profile of ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke patients about incidence, sex, age, risk factors, rehabilitation rate, transfer rate, death rate and following rate.

Methods : Medical records of the patients diagnosed as stroke from 1 January 2006 to 1 January 2008 were retrospectively reviewed.

Results : A total of 116 patients were included in this study. The average age was 64 years. The range was 21-98 years. ischemic stroke patients were found 72.91%, hemorrhagic stroke patients were found 27.08%, transient ischemic attack 2.08%. There were 35.42% of patients came to the hospital within 2 hours alter the onset of symptoms. The common risk factors of ischemic stroke patients included hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetic mellitus, old cardiovascular accident and heart diseases were found 40.00%, 60.00%, 41.38%, 7.14% and 14.29% respectively. The common risk factors of hemorrhagic stroke patients included hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetic mellitus, accident were found 50.00%, 76.92%, 14.29% and 15.38% respectively. For the probable subtype of ischemic stroke include small vessel disease, large vessel disease, cardioembolism were found 29.00%, 15.71% and 4.29% respectively.

               For the probable subtype of hemorrhagic stroke include thalamic hemorrhage, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hemorrhage were found 11.54%, 26.92%, 7.69% and 3.85% respectively. There were 48.57% of ischemic stroke patients followed up consistently (every 1-2 months). There were 38.46% of hemorrhagic stroke patients followed up consistently (every 1-2 months). There were 12.07%, of stroke patients undergone rehabilitation. None of the patients in Khampaengsan hospital dead from cerebrovascular disease.
