Quality Improvement of Clinical Laboratories in Government Hospital in Region 6, 7 to the International Standard

Abstract

Regional Medical Sciences Center Samut Songkhram have developed qualified system of clinical I aboratories in hospital authorized by region 6, 7 Office of the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Public Health from 1998 to 2007 which divided into 3 phases using ISO/IEC Guide 25 Medical Technology Standard and ISO 15189. The 67 laboratories those are a part of the project in 2006 were from 8 provinces of region 6, 7 eg : Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, Nakhonpathom, Suphanburi, Petchaburi, Prachuabkhirikhan, Samutsakhorn and Samutsongkhram. Each year, the working process was improved, led to a better result in 2007, 30 clinical laboratories (44.8%) were 1 leveled up, which also passed the clinical laboratories quality center for 30%. There are 23 laboratories (34.3%) in level 1, 35 laboratories (52.2%) in level 2, 9 laboratories (13.5%) in level 3, 1 laboratories (1.5%) is LA qualified and 8 laboratories (12.1%) is HA qualified. The "network term" working process that emphasized on taking part of each laboratory with Provincial Health Office in self-and team-development would create an endurance development. Also with integration process and an apparent goal and strategy, we expect that the number of laboratory those apply for ISO 15189 qualification in 2008 might achieve the gold.
