Prevalence of Mental and Behavioral Disorders in Somdejprasangkharach 17th Hospital

Mental health and psychiatric problems are important public health problems. There are a number of people who have been appointed to receive psychiatric services continuously. But there is no systematic study of epidemiological data of mental and behavioral disorders in the area of Song Phi Nong District, Suphan Buri.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders of people who received services in Somdejprasangkharach 17th Hospital.
Methods:This is a descriptive study. The retrospective data were collected to study the prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders of people, aged 18 and over, who received services in Somdejprasangkharach 17th Hospital during January 1, to December 31, 2018. The samples were obtained from purposive sampling by a screening nurse and the diagnoses were confirmed by a psychiatrist.
Results: From the sample population of 60,580 cases found 613 cases of mental and behavioral disorders, representing 1.0 percent of the total population. And found the top 10 prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders among the clients as follows: 1.schizophrenia (0.2 percent) 2.tobacco use disorder (0.2 percent) 3.alcohol use disorder (0.2 percent) 4.stimulant use disorder (0.2 percent) 5.depressive disorder (0.1 percent) 6.dementia (0.1 percent) 7.mixed anxiety and depressive disorder (0.1 percent) 8.other nonorganic psychosis (0.1 percent) 9.psychological and behavioral factors with diseases classified elsewhere (0.1 percent) 10.other organic mental and behavioral disorders (0.1 percent).
Conclusion: From results of the lower prevalence of other mental and behavioral disorders than schizophrenia compared to other studies, may reflect the problem of accessibility in psychiatric services that are still present in other mental and behavioral disorders except for schizophrenia.
