The Effects of Dental Health Education Program for Dental Caries Prevention among Village Health Volunteers in Muang Sri kai Sub-District Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Abstract

The Quasi-experimental the design aimed to study the effects of a health education program for dental caries prevention among village health volunteers (VHVs) in Muang Sri Kai Sub-District Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani province. A total of 45 samples were recruited from VHVs in Muang Sri Kai Sub-District, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani province. The control group was 45 sample recruited from Huai kha Yung Sub-District, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani province. The tool of research was dental health education program, and the tools for collecting data were knowledge and attitude questionnaires and plaque inspection. The content validity of tool was 0.70. The reliability of knowledge testing by KR 20 test was 0.71. Attitude questionnaire and oral care behavior by Cronbach 's alpha coefficient was 0.70 and 0.73 respectively. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics- paired t-test and Independent t-test.

            The results revealed that after receiving the dental health education program. The knowledge, attitude and practice about the dental health care of VHVs were higher than before receiving the dental health education program and higher than control group significantly different at the 0.05 level. The plaque index was lower than before the experiment and lower than the control group significantly different at the 0.05 level. This dental education program was effective in tooth decay prevention behaviors among VHVs.
