The study of prescribe prophylactic antibiotic for wound infection in animal bit in Koksrisupan hospital Sakon Nakhon province

Abstract

The aims of research were to: 1) study antibiotics used for prevention wound infectious in animals bite, 2) compared the ratio of patients who received antibiotics before and after guideline used antibiotic to prevent wound infectious by animals bite, and 3) compared therapeutics effect before and after guideline antibiotic used for prevention wound infection. Retrospective analytical study was conducted by collecting sample data from medical record 171 patients who had animal bitten and were treated in Koksrisupan hospital Sakon Nakhon province during April 2019 and April 2020. There were 120 patients before guideline antibiotic implementing and there were 51 patients after guideline antibiotic using. Data were analyzed by frequency percentage mean and chi square.                                                                                                                                          The results shown most of sample was women (59.06%), average age about 40 years old and non-chronic disease (86.55%). Most common animal bite was Centipedes (42.69%), hand was the most bite site (41.52%). Antibiotics use before and after implementing antibiotic guideline was decease significantly different (p<0.05) in Centipedes, scorpion, bee bites. The outcomes of treatment were not different.
