The study of the Situation of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors among the Older Adults in Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to develop the cardiovascular prevention disease guidelines among the older adults in Ubon Ratchathani province. The research divided into two phases. Phase one was to study the cardiovascular disease situation that conducted by the Health Data Center of Ubon Ratchathani Province. The objective was to describe the situation and the risk level of cardiovascular disease, and phase two was to develop the prevention of cardiovascular disease guidelines for the older adults living in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The sample were 217,697 older adults who existed health data, 1.1) systolic blood pressure, 1.2) lipids profile, 1.3) smoking history, and 1.4) diabetes diagnosis, 2) The CVD risk score and 3 focus group.  The cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines were developed for behavior modification in the older adults. The data were analyzed based on descriptive statistics including frequency, and percentage. The qualitative analysis statistics for content analysis.

The results found that most of the older adults were 60–69 years old (81.6%). of 43.4 percent were overweight, and 66.4 percent had a history of diabetes. Metabolic syndrome was 7 percent of males and 35.9 percent of females. The systolic blood pressure (120–139 mmHg) was 93.2 percent and the lipids (160–199 mg/dl) was 77.7%. The risk of cardiovascular disease found less than 10% in 201, 403 people (92.5%), followed by the risk of cardiovascular disease ranging from 10% to 20% and 20% to 30% (6.2% and 1.0%, respectively). Of 95.7 percent of males had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than 91.7 percent of females. The situational data, the level of risk of cardiovascular disease was planned by group discussion with experts. This provides information that lead to the development of guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular disease in the older adults. Experts at all levels agreed that health literacy should be enhance for the older adults and their caregivers. Providing the manual "Guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular disease to change behavioral for the older adults " was a planning care for the older adults in Ubon Ratchathani Province.
