The Effects of Community Participation Process in Elderly Health Care Ban Muang Thao Health Promoting Hospital, Khemmarat District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

This participatory action research aimed to study the effect of community participation process development in elderly health care. Participants included 231 elderly in Ban Muang Thao Health Promoting Hospital, Khemmarat district, Ubon Ratchathani province. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics: frequency, percentage and standard deviation. Employed content analysis to analyse qualitative data.

The findings revealed that the majority of the elderly were social-bound elderly (87.9%), followed by the homebound elderly (10.8%), and the bed-bound elderly (1.3%). Measuring understanding towards promoting the ability to carry out daily activities Barthel Activities of Daily Living (ADL) found that each group of elderly has different practical abilities. Overall, results of the evaluation behavior of 4 Smart (Smart walk, Smart brain, Smart sleep & emotional, Smart eat) of social bound elderly at high (x=3.83, S.D.=0.52), and homebound elderly at high (x=3.69, S.D.=0.61). The results of measuring understanding of mental health care through the 5-dimensional happiness model found that the overall social-bound elderly was at the highest level (x=4.36, S.D.=0.33), homebound elderly at a high level (x=3.74, S.D.=0.80) and bed-bound elderly at a moderate level (x=3.25, S.D.=0.36). Community care is those who actively contribute to the health care of the elderly (x=3.56, S.D.=0.99). As a result of developing the effect of the community participation process in elderly health care, there are operational measures in the area. The results can be expanded to another region and creating long-term care.
