Application of KYT Technique for Patients Lifting Safety from Bed to Wheelchair Among the Caregivers in a Nursing Home in Chon Buri Province

Abstract

Physical lifting and improper posture place were resulted the risk on the lower back of workers. The application of KYT techniques helps reduce work accidents and increase awareness of safety in the work that must be done for controlling and preventing danger. This research study was a quasi-experimental research, a single group was measured before and after the experiment. The objective was to compare the safety of moving patients from beds to wheelchairs before and after the application of the KYT technique. There were purposive sampling 12 subjects who were working in an elderly care center. The study was implemented and collecting data between 1^st June 2023 and 30^th June 2023. The study tools were composed of the one-point hazard awareness training activities or Kiken Yoshi Training (KYT) and the tools for collecting data which were a standard 18-position safety assessment forms for lifting and moving patients from the bed to the wheelchair and a general information questionnaire. The content validity tools were 0.81. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.

The results found that after the experiment the sample group was able to perform all 18 safety postures for transferring patients from beds to wheelchairs more correctly compared to before the experiment with statistical significance (p value<.05). Therefore, the application of the KYT technique may help caregivers performing the correct posture in lifting and moving patients from beds to wheelchairs that can reduce the danger and risk of injury to the lower back from lifting and moving patients.
